I am outside on the streets begging for food. Someone walks past me and says “eww.” I then start crying, in the background there is a bread pop up where someone is selling bread. I walk past the bread stand, over to a brick wall. I lean against the wall, and think of a plan. The plan is to do multiple crimes so i can be arrested, I want to be arrested because i will get food and safety in the jail cell. I then go back to my spot where i begged at and slept. Today is the day where i commit crimes, first, i steal some bread, then I spray paint a wall, then i steal again jacket. The cops find me and I’m arrested. I am happy but stressed at the same time. I am now in jail and have air conditioning and food.

Homeless

Emily huddled against a cold brick wall in an urban street, extending a cup for spare change as a passerby walks by with a disgusted expression. Nearby, a baker arranges fresh loaves at a market stand. The scene is bleak with gray winter skies overhead.

The Streets

Emily sits on a cardboard mat in a dimly lit alley, sketching her desperate plans on a crumpled piece of paper. Her crude drawings show bread, a wall with graffiti, and a jacket. A single streetlight casts long shadows as she contemplates her limited options.

That night, Emily considered a desperate plan. Perhaps minor crimes would lead to arrest and at least provide shelter and food. She sketched out her ideas: steal bread, vandalize a wall, take a jacket. As she drifted to sleep on her cardboard mat, Emily wondered if jail was truly her only option.

A Desperate Plan

"Mom!" The familiar voice startled Emily awake. Twelve-year-old Kaylee stood there, her medium-length blonde hair framing her worried face. "I've been looking everywhere for you since Dad said you left." Emily embraced her daughter, tears streaming down her face.

An Unexpected Visitor

Emily walks with her arm around Kaylee's shoulders toward a building in the distance. Kaylee holds an open pamphlet about the women's shelter. The street behind them fades away as they move forward together. Emily's expression shows the first genuine smile in weeks.

Kaylee had brought information about a women's shelter that could help. "You don't need to do anything desperate," she insisted, showing Emily the pamphlet. Together they walked toward the address, Emily's arm around her daughter's shoulders. For the first time in weeks, Emily felt a flicker of genuine hope.
