My mommy is staying at the county jail because Granny won't post her bail
Mommy's car needed gas so she Pumped and run.  Mommy is poor.  I have to see Mommy behind glass.  Mommy looks really sad and ears food that taste bad.   The deputies yell at Mommy a lot and make her sleep on a steel cot.  My Mommy won't be able to play at my next birthday.

County Jail

John Jr. was excited to see his mom, but it was not like their usual visits. Today, he was going to see her at a place called the county jail. His granny held his hand tightly as they walked inside. John Jr. didn't understand why his mom was there, but he missed her very much. He hoped she would come home soon.

When John Jr. saw his mom, she was behind a big glass wall. He tried to touch her, but the glass was cold and hard. His mom smiled, but her eyes looked sad. John Jr. wished he could hug her like he used to. They talked through a little phone, which was strange for him.

Mom explained that she was there because she didn't have enough money for gas. She tried to take some without paying, and that was wrong. John Jr. listened carefully, trying to understand. His mom told him she was sorry and that she loved him very much. She promised to be home as soon as she could.
